PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain both a coating material which is prepared by using a specific excellent acrylic resin having balanced various performances as a coating binder and has excellent adhesivity to a hardly adherent material, especially a hardly adherent metal such as a magnesium alloy, an aluminum alloy, stainless steel, and to provide a coated article. SOLUTION: This composition for a coating material comprises an acrylic emulsion (A) obtained by subjecting a hydroxy group-containing unsaturated monomer (a), an epoxy group-containing unsaturated monomer (b) and another unsaturated monomer to emulsion copolymerization and an aqueous acrylic resin (B) containing a tertiary amino group and carboxyl group at the side chain. The acrylic emulsion (A) is mixed with the aqueous acrylic resin (B) in the weight ratio of 1/99 to 99/1.
