PURPOSE:To prevent the reverse phenomenon of brightness for a multi-gradation intermediate mode display, and enable a proper gradation to be stably displayed, regarding a liquid crystal display device. CONSTITUTION:Liquid crystal molecules are oriented in a twisted way approximately 90 degrees with a light travel direction, and a polarizer 2 is laid at the incident side of a TN(twisted nematic) liquid crystal cell 1 having a DELTAnd value between 300 and 600nm. Also, an analyzer 3 is provided at the light emission side of the cell 1. Furthermore, molecules are arrayed in a way 90 degrees twisted in a direction reverse to the twisted direction of liquid crystal molecules between the cell 1 and the analyzer 3. Also, a twisted phase plate 4 having a DELTAnd value (product of anisotropy of refraction factor and gap) between 100 and 600nm is laid, and this plate 4 can correct a difference of the DELTAnd value of each light transmitted perpendicularly and aslant through the liquid crystal cell 1. |
