PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a key and a lock system capable of preventing the use of duplicate keys even if the key is duplicated and accurately grasping the number of the duplicate keys. SOLUTION: This lock system is provided with an information memory section 11 storing the password information certifying a key as a genuine one, and it updates the password information stored in the information memory section 11 via communication with an external apparatus at each locking.
