The engine has a camshaft with two halve sections (24,26) and a camshaft gear wheel between the halves. A hydraulic camshaft adjuster (28) between the shaft sections is formed as axial bearing for the sections. Each shaft section has a hydraulic fluid connection (34,36) via the bearing to the camshaft adjuster. The camshaft gear wheel is integrated in the adjuster, which is formed as a vane cell adjuster.
