PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide Nb-containing ferritic stainless steel free of thickness restriction in applications, superior in planar anisotropy, corrosion resistant, thermal resistance and workability, without addition of specific alloying elements, and also provide the production method for the same. SOLUTION: This ferritic stainless steel contains, by mass, C: 0.03% or less, N: 0.03% or less, Si: 2.0% or Mn: 2.0% or less, nickel: 0.6% or less, Cr: 9-35%, and Nb: 0.15-0.80%, containing additionally one or more elements of Ti: 0.5% or less, Mo: 3.0% or less, Cu: 3.0% or less Al: 6.0% or less as necessary and the remainder being Fe and unavoidable impurity. In the stainless steel, fine precipitates are dispersed in a matrix as a solid solution by a final annealing, and thereafter the precipitates having the grain diameter of 0.5μm or less are controlled to be 0.5 mass % or less. Further, the crystal orientation of rolled face in the depth of one-fourth of steel sheet thickness is controlled.
