PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a variable length decoding processor capable of easily detecting that any error is present in a variable length code, and preventing the missing of any frame or the lack of any voice due to the excess of the decoding processing time. SOLUTION: This device is provided with a first storage part 1 for storing a received variable length code (Huffman code), a decoding part 2 for decoding the Huffman code read from the first storage part 1, a timer 3 for outputting a time-up signal after the lapse of a prescribed time since the start of the decoding of the decoding part 2, and a control unit 4 for forcedly ending the decoding of the decoding part 2 based on the time-up signal of the timer 3.
