PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a surface shape detector which is movable and easily usable by anybody, unlike the conventional pickup type surface roughness meter using a stylus or the roughness meter using a laser beam for detecting the surface roughness, either hard to handle. SOLUTION: The surface shape detector uses a piezoelectric sensor 1 for detecting the shape condition of a surface 8. This has a simple constitution and a high robustness and can be easily incorporated in an electric cleaner, etc. It has a discriminator circuit 6, etc., for processing obtained surface roughness signals 3, thereby quickly indicating the surface condition on a display 7.
