PURPOSE: A method for controlling an auxiliary cooling water heater for a diesel engine is provided to offer convenience to a driver by increasing the fuel injection amount when the voltage of a battery is low and by turning on an auxiliary heater at an early stage. CONSTITUTION: A method for controlling an auxiliary cooling water heater for a diesel engine comprises the steps of deciding the operation of an auxiliary heater when a water temperature sensor has troubles(S1), recognizing the temperature of the cooling water as the temperature of intake air if the auxiliary heater is not operated(S2), and selecting a heater off condition with the variable of an off set-up time while the temperature of the cooling water is recognized as the temperature of intake air(S3). By backing up the temperature of the cooling water and increasing the amount of injected fuel, the auxiliary heater is turned on at an early stage.
