PURPOSE: A portable water depth measuring system is provided to automatically and accurately measure depth of water while freely moving. CONSTITUTION: A water depth measuring device(100) is thrown into water to be measured together with a measuring weight(172). The water depth measuring device floats on the water while the measuring weight, bound to a front end of a measuring wire(171), sinks to a bottom under water. The measuring wire, elastically supported by a rubber(152c) of a rotary body, moves together with the measuring weight to rotate the rotary body. A detective sensor(151) detects amount of rotation of a detective disk(152b) of the rotary body. The rotary body stops rotation when the measuring weight reaches the bottom under water so measuring is determined to be complete after a while. The detective sensor transmits detected value to a control part(190) to output to a liquid crystal display(161) for a user to check.
