The cam follower is of thin material, e.g. sheet metal and has valve stem guide near one of its ends (5). The guide has a separate U-shaped securing part (6), with a web (9) engaging on a cross bar (3) of the cam follower. The web has a stamped recess (11) to guide the gas exchange valve. The sides (16) of the securing part are formed on the recess. Its legs (7,8) are positioned behind each other, in longitudinal direction of the cam follower. One leg engages in an aperture (13) of the cross bar, the other leg is held on a cam follower end.
