PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an ink for ink jet comprising an independent dispersion of metal superfine particle and to provide a method for producing the same. SOLUTION: This ink for ink jet comprising a dispersion having excellent ink characteristics is obtained by a first process for bringing a metal vapor into contact with a first solvent vapor by a gas evaporation method to obtain a metal superfine particle dispersion, a second process for adding a second solvent being a low-molecular weight polar solvent to the dispersion to precipitate the metal superfine particle and extracting and removing the first solvent and a third process for adding a third solvent to the obtained precipitate to carry out a solvent substitution and to obtain the metal superfine particle dispersion and adding a dispersant to the dispersion in the first process and/or the third process. The metal superfine particle having <=100 nm particle diameter is uniformly dispersed in an independent state.
