The hoist (3) includes a hoisting frame (4,7) raised and lowered by a drive (9) using props (5) adjusted individually off the frame to support the boat. A positioner (15,16) with guides adjusts to the side to line the boat up with respect to the frame (4,7). Each side guide has its own buffer (15) moved by one or more adjuster arms (16) and the positioner is completed by an adjustable endstop to locate the boat lengthways. The frame comprises platform (4) and side beams (7) and the hoist drive has a lifting cylinder (9) per beam (7) as well as a catchment basin (13).
