PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image pickup device capable of effectively using the capacity of a recording medium. SOLUTION: The positions of 1st and 2nd cursors are shifted to desired positions, the positions of the 1st and 2nd cursors are decided (steps 103 and 104), and the size and position of a framework are decided (step 105). A range designation processing part reads only an image within a range designation frame from a memory and once stores the image in a RAM, when a shutter button is pressed down, and a compressing and extending part next compresses only an image in the framework and writes the image to a recording medium such as a memory card (step 107).
