PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a support for a lithographic printing plate in which injury is not generated even in continuous operation, smut and an intermetallic compound are removed, a width for selecting a material is not narrowed, and a production process is not controlled severely. SOLUTION: In the method in which an aluminum alloy plate is subjected at least to surface roughening treatment and anodic oxidation treatment, the surface roughening treatment comprises at least an alkali treatment process in which the alkali treatment is done by an alkali solution of pH 10 or above and of 25-80 deg.C and an acid treatment process in which the acid treatment is done by an acid solution of an acid concentration of 300-800 g/liter and of 60-90 deg.C, each treatment method in both processes is a shower method, the amount of the acid solution or the alkali solution to be supplied is at least 5 L/m2, and a collection means for collecting a deposit dropped from the aluminum plate is provided in the acid treatment process.
