PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a separator for an electric double-layer capacitor that prevents the fusion of the separator, even if the separator is assembled and used at high temperature, and carriers out charge and discharge without short- circuiting an electrode. SOLUTION: This separator for an electric double layer is composed of a polybutylene telephtharate nonwoven fabric. For the polybutylene telephtharate nonwoven fabric, an average fiber diameter, weight, air permeability, and thickness is to be set to 1 to 20μm, 5 to 120 g/m2, 1 to 100 cc/cm2/sec, and 0.01 to 1.0 mm, respectively.
