PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device capable of scanning an object optically at high speed. SOLUTION: The first and second optical signals from the first and second areas of the object are focused on the first and second optical sensor arrays respectively. Picture data signals from the first and second optical sensor arrays are combined within a detection circuit to form the composited picture of the object. By exposing the first area while an optical signal made by exposing the second area is read and by exposing the second area while an optical signal made by exposing the first area is read, the object can be scanned faster. As an image sensor, one on the market can be used. Two comparatively inexpensive CCD image sensors or CMOS image sensors on the market are arranged in parallel to each other and exposing the adjacent areas of the object alternately, a scanning speed is improved.
