PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the damage to a latent image carrier, fogging and filming by reducing soiling in a machine owing to developer in the contact development of the latent image carrier. SOLUTION: In this image forming device where a developing device 10 having a supply member 3 to which supply bias 6 is applied and which supplies a developer layer of specified thickness on the surface of a developer carrier 2 to which developing bias 5 is applied is made to abut on and separated from the latent image carrier 1 in response to image forming timing by a contact/ separate mechanism 8, the device 10 is separated from the image carrier 1 by the mechanism 8 after the carrying amount of the developer is made low by setting the supply bias 6 smaller than at the time of forming an image. Owing to the lowering of the carrying amount, developer accumulation is hardly formed at a nip part between the developer carrier 2 and the image carrier 1, and a situation that the developer drops and soils the inside of the machine when separating the device 10 is prevented. |
