The lift system has axes (1) with rolls (8) arranged in a star pattern rotating about a center point. The rolls rotate about their longitudinal axes and are driven separately to create a Magnus effect flow field. A stable Magnus fow provides considerably more lift than the flow round circulating rigid aerofoil rotor blades.
