PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a paper feeder capable of stably feeding paper without imposing a load on a driving motor. SOLUTION: A paper feeding gear 3 has an outer periphery face consisting of a toothed portion 31 and a non-toothed portion 32, and one end face of the paper feeding gear 3 is provided with a protrusion 33 and a rotation preventing portion 34. The protrusion 33 is located near the right of the non-toothed portion 32, as shown in Fig.2. By mounting a spring 35 as energizing means at one end on the protrusion 33 and at the other end on a paper feeder body, the paper feeding gear 3 is energized to be rotated to the direction of an arrowmark A. The rotation preventing portion 34 prevents the rotation of the paper feeding gear 3 against the energizing force of the spring 35 by engagement with a lever 37 mounted on a solenoid 36.
