PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an FM receiver that can reduce distortions in an audio signal in the case of receiving an over-modulated broadcast wave. SOLUTION: An amplifier 50 adjusts the amplitude level of a composite signal outputted from an intermediate frequency amplifier/FM detection circuit 18 and an analog/digital converter 54 converts the signal into digital data. An overmodulation detecting section 66 provides an output of a specified detection signal, when the amplitude level of the composite signal outputted from the digital data 50 exceeds a prescribed threshold, on the basis of the digital data outputted from the analog/digital converter 54. When the overmodulation detection section 66 outputs the detection signal, a control section 22 instructs a gain-setting section 52, to decrease the gain of the amplifier 50 by a prescribed amount. The gain setting section 52 receiving the instruction sets the gain of the amplifier 50 by the prescribed amount of the gain reduced.
