GRANULAR MATERIAL CARRYING METAL COMPOUND, METHOD FOR MANUFACTURING THE SAME AND ITS USE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a smectite carrying metal compounds and a method for manufacturing the smectite which has a wide deodorization spectrum for various kinds of bad odor components, which has large deodorization capacity, which in a solid state stably adsorbs a bad odor component and reacts with the component to show the deodorizing performance and which is useful as a deodorant. SOLUTION: The granular material is produced from a composition of 40 to 90 wt.% smectite clay mineral having >=50 meq/g cation exchange capacity and 10 to 60 wt.% porous inorganic powder having >=100 m2/g BET specific surface area and >=100 ml/100 g oil absorption and by depositing at least one kind selected from metal compounds of copper and zinc on the particle surface. The metal compounds are deposited by 0.001 to 2.0 wt.% in terms of RO (R represents copper or zinc) at 110 deg.C in a dry state to the composite granules. The extract amount of copper and/or zinc when the compounds are extracted with water of 50 times quantity is <=3 ppm.
