Method for oxidizing organic compounds (A) in an electrochemical cell consisting of anode, cathode and solid electrolyte capable of conducting oxygen ions. The anode is a mixture of electrically conductive material (B) and a mixed metal oxide (I). (A) is supplied to the anode, and a gas containing oxygen or nitrous oxide to the cathode.
