The Stirling cycle machine has displacement and working pistons are moved with the same stroke and same phase position. The displacement piston has a smaller diameter than the working piston, and the expansion chamber has a dead volume(20). The displacement and working pistons are formed as one unit as a stepped piston(8). The stepped piston acts upon a crankshaft through a connecting rod(10).
