PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To produce an ink which is useful for ink jet recording, is used for ink jet printers in which at least one portion of a member contacting with the ink is formed from silicon or silicon oxide, can prevent the elusion of the silicon or the silicon oxide contacting with the ink, can thereby prevent the changes in the size of ink drops and in the extrusion speed of the ink drops and the failure in the extrusion of the ink drops, and has excellent dispersion or dissolution stability, to provide an ink jet recording method using the ink, to provide an ink cartridge, to provide a recording unit, and to provide an ink jet recording device. SOLUTION: This ink for the ink jet recording is characterized in that the total content of alkali metals in the ink is <=700 ppm. The ink for the ink jet recording, further contains an alkanolamino ion or a quaternary ammonium ion represented by the general formula (A) (R1 to R4 are each H, a 1 to 4C alkyl, a hydroxyalkyl or a halogenated alkyl) in an amount of >=30% per equivalent of an anionic compound contained in the ink. |
