PURPOSE: An apparatus and method for checking positions of shadow mask and panel for flat cathode ray tube is provided to check, in an easy manner, whether the slot of the shadow mask and stripe of the panel are arranged at positions corresponding to each other. CONSTITUTION: An apparatus comprises a frame(20) where a funnel(15) mounted with an electron gun(11) is installed; a plurality of sub frames(21) arranged at both ends of the frame, and which have a plurality of weights(W,W1) arranged onto the sub frames; a vacuum chamber(30) for vacuumizing the inner space of the funnel and a mask/panel(MP); a camera jig(22) arranged onto the frame; and a plurality of cameras(C,C1,C2,C3) mounted at a predetermined spacing onto the camera jig. The electron beam scanned from the electron gun arranged at the rear of the funnel passes through the mask/panel, and the amount and intensity of the electron beam passed through the mask/panel is measured by the cameras, so as to check whether the mask and panel are arranged at positions corresponding to each other.
