This invention concerns a ballast fluid composition consisting essentially of: a) from 1 to 85 % by weight of a monoester prepared by reacting a monoacid and a monoalcohol; b) from 15 to 99 % by weight of an alpha-olefin said ballast fluid having a density ranging from 765 to 850 kg/m<3>, a pour point of less than -15 DEG C and a flash point of at least 100 DEG C.
