PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a dye removing agent capable of efficiently removing an acid hair dye from the hair without damaging the hair and without loading the hair. SOLUTION: This dye removing agent comprises the following components (A), (B), (C), (D) and (E): (A) 0.05-10 wt.% of a cationic surfactant represented by the following formula (1) [wherein, at least one of R1, R2, R3 and R4 denotes a straight-chain or branched chain 20-36C alkyl group or 20-36C hydroxyalkyl group or benzyl group; the balance denotes a 1-3C alkyl group or a 1-3C hydroxyalkyl group; and X denotes a halogen atom or a 1-2C alkylsulfate group], (B) 0.1-40 wt.% of one or more kinds of organic solvents selected from an N-alkylpyrrolidone, a lower alkylene carbonate and an aromatic alcohol, (C) 0.1-50 wt.% of a lower alcohol, (D) 0.01-10 wt.% of an alkali component and (E) 0.1-20 wt.% of a thickener.
