A friction pivot bearing for a horizontally or vertically pivoted window comprises a mounting plate 2 having a non-circular central pin 3 which is rotatable in an outer casing 5 non- rotatably secured to an inner casing 10 and a mounting plate 1 connected to the casings by means of a flange 9 which enters a slit 11a and has a transverse recess 15 engaged by a locking member 13 which prevents relative movement between the flange and the casings except when the window has been swung about 180 degrees from its closed position, braking discs 14, 28, 29 which have non-circular central holes similar in shape to the pin 3 and braking discs 21, 22 which have circular central holes and engage the inner casing 10 at their peripheries being placed on the pin 3 and urged together by a spring 20. The braking discs, which include the bottom 6 of the outer easing 5, are separated by plates b of friction material e.g. nylon, and the pressure of the spring 20 is adjusted by a screw 16 freely rotatable in the pin 3 and screwed into a disc 17 abutting the spring. The screw 16, the end 18 of which is retained in a hole 19 in the inner casing 10 by a locking ring or other means, also serves to hold the two casings together, relative rotation between the casings being prevented by a depression 7 in the circumference of the outer casing which engages a recess in the inner casing. Peripheral tongues (not shown) on the discs 28 and 29 are stopped by the depression 7 and limit the rotation of the bearing. The slit 11a is -formed by a divided plate 1a secured on the casing 10 and communicates with a diametrical depression 11 in the casing, and the flange 9, which is T-shaped in section, may be inserted or removed through a recess 8 in the outer edge of the casing 5 when the window is in the 180 degrees open position, as shown in Figs. 1 and 2. The depression 11 is formed with a slit 12 corresponding to the recess 15 in the flange to receive the locking member 13 which consists of an outwardly directed part of the disc 14. The rotation of the bearing may be limited, e.g. to 30 degrees, by a stop pin 33 screwed into the mounting plate 2 and engageable with an annular slit 34 in the bottom 6 of the outer casing. In a modification intended for the lower pivot of a vertically pivoted window, the flange 9 is rectangular in section. In a further modification the locking member is a spring-loaded pin which may be made to release the flange 9 in the 180 degrees position by engagement with a curved flange. |
