PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a compact power transmission of a four-wheel drive vehicle with excellent mountability. SOLUTION: In this power transmission of a four-wheel drive vehicle capable of distributing a drive force from a transmission 2 connected to a transverse installation engine 1 to front and rear wheels through a transfer 3 disposed at the rear of the engine 1, the transfer 3 comprises a pair of direction change gears 30 and 31 for changing a drive force transmitting direction, first and second gears 32 and 33 directionally changed by the direction change gears 30 and 31 and displaying through the axis of a pinion shaft 31a parallel with each other, and an output shaft 35 rotatably inserted into the second gear 33 and capable of transmitting a drive force to a rear wheel side. A hydraulic multiple disk clutch 8 for connecting the second gear 33 to the output shaft 36∥5 so as to be engaged with and disengaged from each other is disposed on the axis of the second gear 33 and on the engine 1 side of the second gear 33.
