In diagnostic and/or repair operations for crashed vehicles, a method and apparatus is provided where voice recognition means 42 is used to control measurements 10 of a vehicle geometry. The three-dimensional measurements, obtained by transmission of acoustic, optical or other signals 16, made at a series of spaced locations on the vehicle, provide a sequence of data points, indexed in database 28 by acoustic voice recognition system 42. The operator controls the data indexing from an in-situ position at or near the vehicle giving voice commands 44 using headset apparatus 46. Comparison of the measurements with reference data from the vehicle manufacturer allows interactive operator evaluation and choice of the next action, which may include repetition of the measurement steps, or a body straightening or repair step. |
