PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an improved image stream editing system and its method which can obtain one or plural representative frames by processing only once the sequence or shot. SOLUTION: An image stream of one or plural shots is processed, and every shot includes one or plural shot frames in a stream sequence. Each of buffers of a system can store an optional shot frame. In an extraction process, the shot frames are selected from the image stream at the inter-frame selection intervals and these selected shot frames (called buffer frames) are stored in a buffer so as to keep the sequence of buffers. Thus, the representative frames are extracted by selecting the frames via the shots and at almost even intervals in terms of time.
