A method of measuring a moment, especially a torque, acting on a component during which surface acoustic waves (SAWs) are excited by high-frequency scanning pulses on at least one piezo electric substrate, tightly joined to the component, and reflection-delayed responding (answer) signals, influenced by the moment (torque) being measured, are evaluated for determining the moment (torque). At least three acoustic surface waves (SAWs) with different directions of propagation are generated on the substrate and the resultant responding (answer) signals which have three distortion components caused independently of the moment (torque) being measured, are evaluated for determining the moment (torque). The at least three directions of propagation of the SAWs specifically cross over at one common crossing point, more specifically directed at 0, 45, and -45 deg. or 0, 60, -60 deg. to a preferred direction.
