PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To facilitate exposure (luminance) adjusting work, while the luminance distribution of an image-picked up image in an electronic still camera and the like is viewed and to improve the visibility of the luminance distribution of the image-picked up image. SOLUTION: When EV value is shifted ('YES' in SA2), luminance level is counted at each pixel from an image-picked up image (SA6), and display data of the histogram of luminance distribution is generated (SA7). When the EV value is not the upper limit or the lower limit of an adjustment range (NO in SA8), a display color is set to be white and data is composited into a through-image (SA9). The through-image, with which the white histogram is overlapped, is displayed (SA11). When the EV value is the upper limit or the lower limit of the adjusting range (YES in (SA8), the display color is set to red, and data is composited into the through-image (SA10), and the through- image with which the red histogram is overlapped is displayed (SA11). The display color of the histogram is changed according to the biased state of luminance, and the histogram is displayed by a gradation pattern in the setting axis direction of a luminance level.
