PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To retrieve a retrieving object image as an image having high similarity with a reference image even when positions of subjects are displaced in some degree between the reference image and the retrieving object image. SOLUTION: A feature vector FREF is calculated by performing a processing of image feature extraction by inputting the reference image in an image feature extracting part 10'. Distance d(i) between FREF and a feature vector F(i) calculated in a pre-processing is calculated for i=1, 2, 3,..., Np in a similarity calculating part 40, the retrieving object images are placed in the order from the one with the smallest value of d(i) in an order decision result output part 50, image file numbers from the first place to the NHIT place and their contracted images are outputted as retrieval results are presented on a display (not shown) by arranging them.
