The device has a polarisation controller (FCP1) and a delay part (DDG1) which introduces a differential delay between two modes of orthogonal polarisation. The controller and the delay part are positioned between the optical fibre (LF) and the receiver terminal (RX). The polarisation controller has a feedback control loop (SCU1) consisting of the optical fibre, the polarisation controller and the delay part. The main polarisation state vectors are controlled to ensure they coincide with the state of the polarisation signal vectors at the transmitter terminal output.
