PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a new carboxylic acid modified organopolysiloxane capable of readily modifying a polyester, etc., by a method different from a conventional one and to provide a method for producing the same. SOLUTION: This method for producing a terminal carboxylic acid modified polyorganosiloxane of general formula (1) (R1, R2, R3, R4 and R5 are each a 1-20C alkyl, a 6-10C aryl group or a 4-10C cycloalkyl group; R6 is a residue after removal of a carboxyl group from a tetracarboxylic acid; R0 is a hydrogen atom or a carboxy group; n is a number of >=1, m is a number of >=0 and n+m is a number satisfying 500-100,000 average molecular weight of a polysiloxane segment; X is a 2-20C alkylene; Y is a 2-3C oxyalkylene; p is a number satisfying 44-20,000 average molecular weight of a polyoxyalkylene segment Yp) comprises reacting a silicone containing one terminal hydroxy group of general formula (2) with at least one acid anhydride selected from the group of acid anhydrides of general formulas (3) and (4).
