PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To allow a navigation device to readily cope with changes in specifications and map data format. SOLUTION: A control device 16, which realizes navigation functions, implements an OS, a Java virtual machine, and applications by means of a CPU. The applications include route search functions, guidance support functions, map data access functions and screen/map display functions, each of which is bundled for separating the functions into modules. Thus, even if the specifications of the route search functions are varied, only the module of the route search functions needs to be changed and the other functions remain unaffected. For the map data access functions, a standard interface is mounted on the read map data to conceal the format of the map data and allow the application side to easily use the map data access functions. |
