PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of holding the lateral both end parts of a film- shaped object with sufficient accuracy and strength and long service life by eliminating defects of insufficient accuracy and strength due to the use of a curved chain increasing a clearance between a bush and a pin shaft and early looseness causing a short service life. SOLUTION: This method of holding a film-shaped object is formed so that the film-shaped object is fed between a pair of clip chains opposed to each other at a distance generally equal to the width dimension of the film-shaped object and having a plurality of clips installed thereon and the lateral both end parts of the film-shaped object are held by the clips. When holding the film-shaped object, before an area holding the film-shaped object the lateral sectional shape of the film-shaped object is warped generally in an arc shape to make the lateral dimension smaller than the clearance of the pair of click chains. In an area for holding the film-shaped object, the lateral sectional shape of the film-shaped object warped generally in the arc-shaped is stretched linearly, inserting the film-shaped object into the clips for holding.
