PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a color liquid crystal display device which is bright, has high color purity and has a wide range of color reproducibility. SOLUTION: In the color liquid crystal display device constructed by combining an optical shutter utilizing a liquid crystal, a color filter having at least three color components of red, green and blue colors corresponding to the optical shutter and a backlight for transmissive illumination, the color liquid crystal display device is characterized by using a light source at least with a light emission peak in 500-540 nm range as the backlight.
