PURPOSE: A method for locking an electronic document transmitted through a network is provided to maintain the security of information transmitted between a transmitter and a receiver by giving a lock function to an electronic document transmitted through a network, and by secretly maintaining the document for a fixed time. CONSTITUTION: Each user's computer is connected to a server which controls that an electronic document is received from each user computer or stored. The server enables a user who wants to transmit the electronic document to select a lock function among one or more lock functions. The server enables the user to input solution information on the lock function and adds information on the lock function selected and the solution information to the electronic document. The server checks whether the lock function is set to the electronic document. In case that the function is set, solution information on the function is inputted. In case that the solution information is identical to the solution information added to the electronic document, the electronic document is opened.
