PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve such problem that, in a method for treating the surface of peat-moss by immersing and stirring the peat-moss in an aqueous solution of a surfactant and bentonite, the peat-moss forms dumpling-shaped lumps during the stirring because of the water repelling properties of the peat-moss, and homogeneous mixing and suitable surface treatment have been impossible, and in this case, the culture medium prepared by the press-forming of the peat- moss can not pertinently absorb water to restore the peat-moss and is not suitable for seeding and raising seedlings for vegetables, waterfield rice, flowers or the like. SOLUTION: The invention described in Claim 1 is a culture medium prepared by mixing a vegetable fiber and a powdery surfactant followed by the press- forming, the invention described in Claim 2 is a culture medium prepared by mixing a vegetable fiber, a clay material and a powdery surfactant followed by the press-forming, and the invention described in Claim 6 is a press-formed culture medium whose tapered part 1a conforms with the conical trapezoid 5c of the bottom inside a seedling raising pot 5.
