PURPOSE: A heterocyclic compound exhibiting excellent heat stability, light-resistance and high polymer-solubility when used in mass pigmentation of polar polymers such as a polyamide and a polyester and useful for a colorant is provided. CONSTITUTION: The compound is represented by formula(1) (R1 to R8 and R'5 to R'8 are each H, a halogen, hydroxy, NO2, CN, a C1-C12 alkyl, phenyl, naphthyl or the like). The compound represented by formula(1) can be obtained by reacting a compound represented by formula(3) (Hal is a halogen) with a compound represented by formula(4) (Met is Na+, K+ or Zn2+) and a compound represented by formula(5). For example, the violet powdery compound represented by formula(2) which has 383-385 deg.C of melting point is obtained by suspending 2,3-dichloronaphthoquinone in N,N-dimethylformamide and then adding and reacting 2-amino-5-chlorothiophenol therewith. Besides, the above polymer can be colored by adding and mixing an active amount of the colorant represented by formula(1) with a synthetic polar polymer.
