PURPOSE: An elevator system is provided to efficiently utilize a building with reducing a hoist area for installing elevator of a building by installing an elevator without a separate machine room. CONSTITUTION: Into each roller shaft(7) , a bearing for supporting the rotational motion of a guide drive roller(9) is inserted. Between respective roller shafts and another side of a hoistway(1) or between fixing members(6), an elastic member made of a compression spring is installed for elasticity pushing the guide drive roller toward a car(2). In a state that the guide drive roller, a drive a driving source(3) fixed at the hoistway is driven in case the car is elevating inside the hoistway in a state of contacting with a movable guide member(8) fixed on other side of the car. The rotational force caused by a drive delivery medium(14) with driving of the driving source is supplied to the guide drive roller for elevating the car. Thereby, upon installation of elevator, a separate machine room is not required on the hoistway and a space of the hoistway is utilized maximally not by arranging a counter weight. In addition, utilization of a building is enhanced and a load applied on top of the building is largely decreased.
