Use of calcium or barium hydroxide in a process for the electrochemical treatment of concrete to remove chloride ions and absorb chlorine

A process for the electro-chemical treatment of concrete comprising passing a direct electric current between an anode associated with a layer of electrolyte applied to an external surface of the concrete and a cathode which is located internally in the concrete. The process causes chloride ions to migrate to the anode and to reduce the production of chlorine gas, the electrolyte layer contains calcium hydroxide or barium hydroxide as a chlorine scavenger.
