The panel is supported above a box having LEDs mounted on a white ceramic printed circuit. The structure for illuminating a liquid crystal display panel (2) comprises a light box (1) which is formed under the screen. The light box includes low intensity light sources (6) mounted in its edges. The light is provided by at least one light emitting diode mounted on the surface of a printed circuit board which has conductive tracks to supply current to the LED. The LED has a protective structure mounted around it, including a cover panel and side supports. The printed circuit board may be made of ceramic material which is pref. white, and the light emitting diode emits light which has a white appearance. A filter mounted in front of the LED prevents dazzle when the device is used for night viewing. |
