PURPOSE: An apparatus and method for testing a transmitting path of a digital TV transmitter are provided to test a transmission path of a digital TV transmitter by using a receiving digital TV and a measuring device provided in a set-top box. CONSTITUTION: A data input unit(500) receives an MPEG-II transmission stream type digital broadcasting signal from a multiplexing and transmission unit. A test signal generating unit(501) generates a test signal for measuring a bit error rate of a transmission path.. An input multiplexing unit(502) selects and outputs one signal out of inputted digital broadcasting signals and the generated test signal in accordance with an operation mode. A data random-number device(503) performs a random-numbering of the digital broadcasting signal or the test signal in accordance with an operation mode. A read solomon coder(504), a data interleaver(505) and a trellis coder(506) perform a channel coding of the digital broadcasting signal or the test signal. A multiplexer(507) inserts a field synchronizing signal and a segment synchronizing signal into the channel-coded digital broadcasting signal or the test signal. A pilot insertion unit(508) inserts a pilot signal into the channel-coded digital broadcasting signal or the test signal. A linear filter(509) divides the channel-coded digital broadcasting signal or the test signal into a 'I' channel and 'Q' channel and performs a digital filtering. A transposition distorted non-leaner filter(510) performs a transposition distorting of the digital broadcasting signal or the test signal for compensating non-leaner distorting. A VSB modulator(511) converts the digital broadcasting signal or the test signal into a final analog signal to be transmitted and transmits the signal to a wireless channel through an antenna.
