PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an attenuator whose attenuation can be set in detail over a wide range and to provide a signal analyzer that can especially measure distortion with high accuracy based on an attenuated signal. SOLUTION: Each of resistors 16a-16e in the order closer to an input connector 7 has an attenuation in the order of frequency of use. Each of the resistors 16a-16e has a resistance of 2n dB (2, 4, 8, 16, 32, dB) so that even the minimum number of the resistors can provide attenuations in the range 2 to 62 dB in a step of 2 dB. A projection 20a projected into an outer conductor groove 2 is provided in a through signal path closer to the input connector 7 so as to decrease a return loss and make the characteristic impedance constant. The signal analyzer employing the attenuator 52 can set in detail the attenuation in the case of measuring the third order distortion of 2-signals, then the measurement in a high dynamic range is attained.
