PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for evaluating a toxic substance easily and rapidly without depending on any animal experiments as a method for evaluating the influence of toxicity for an organism without analyzing each chemical substance comprehensively. SOLUTION: By aiming at the fact that sensitivity and organism reaction characteristics (cell multiplication property, organic substance productivity, or the like) for a chemical substance differ depending on the type of a cell, and comparing and evaluating a plurality of types of cell response properties, the degree and property of influence to the organism being indicated by the chemical substance can be characterized, and further the type and concentration of a harmful chemical substance in water to be inspected can be identified according to an evaluation result obtained for the water to be inspected based on an evaluation result regarding a known chemical substance.
