The invention relates to a method and a device for winding cables onto a rotationally driven cable drum (4) without gaps. An oncoming cable (2) is wound directly next to the preceding cable at a winding-on point in a new coil and if a monitoring device (12) detects a gap between the last coils, the winding-on angle of the cable (2) is corrected. A marking that changes according to time is applied (10) to the cable before it is wound and the state of this marking is detected at least in the new coil and the preceding coil. The new coil can be differentiated from the preceding coil.
