PURPOSE: A device and a method for converting horizontal screen ratio of picture signal in a wide screen picture processing device are provided to easily convert horizontal screen ratio in a wide screen picture processing device. CONSTITUTION: A device for converting horizontal screen ratio of picture signal in a wide screen picture processing device includes a line memory(204) for storing pixel data of one line, a mode selection part(212) having a key for setting a screen horizontal ratio converting mode and a position of standard pixel, a waveform part(210) for setting compress factor function corresponding to the changed position of standard pixel and outputting compress factor values corresponding to each pixel of one line in order, an accumulator(208) for accumulating the compress factor values and obtaining difference of integral numbers between present accumulated value and previous accumulated value, a memory controlling part(206) for reading out pixel data from the line memory to an extent of the integral number difference, a delayer(214) for delaying pixel data output from the line memory, first and second multipliers(218,216) for multiplying pixel data and value output from the accumulator and outputting the multiplied value, and an adder(220) for adding and outputting output from the first and second multipliers.
